faces of ground zero: 10 years later

Dropped by the Time Warner Center for a quick errand and stepped into an exhibition of more than 50 images of heroes from September 11th. The next thing I knew it was an hour later and I still couldn’t get enough of the life size polaroid shots. It was if you were standing face to face and being introduced. That kind of impact.
Marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Times Warner Center presents “Faces of Ground Zero, Portraits of the Heroes of September 11, 2001.” The premise of the exhibit (besides the anniversary) is to reveal where the “subjects” are today and how 9/11 affected their lives. A must see, but closes on 9/12.
a sign of comfort
Remember the steel t-beam found within the rubble of the World Trade Center a couple of days after 9/11? The symbol of hope, faith, comfort and healing for many?
Recently on a trip to Ground Zero I came across the temporary sight of the 2-ton, 20 foot high beam. But what was so intriguing were the two baseballs in a nook inside the cross. I learned later that a father, whose son had died in the twin towers, had them placed there in honor of his son in hopes of bringing some sort of closure to his loss. You see his son was an avid baseball fan and had always wanted to play for the Yankees. A small memorial…
Just a few days ago the cross was moved from its current location to the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. I’ll be one of many who will be viewing Ground Zero for the first time during the week of 9/11 this year. It will be another step going forward…a testament to the spiritual renewal in the face of tragedy and loss.
