strawberry fields…forever
In my walks, I pass through Strawberry Fields in Central Park at least three or four times a week.
Every passing brings a special moment.
Yesterday…as a ray of afternoon sun peeked through the trees…another magical moment experienced.
boat overturns in central park lake
Well..wouldn’t you know it. You go out for a little picnic and bubbly in Central Park to enjoy a little row boating and the whole world shows up. Four helicopters and too many police squads and ambulances to mention…
Seems a couple had a little issue and capsized their boat. So glad all was well except for some bruised egos perhaps? Don’t know the details other than what I learned on the news…one was trying to retrieve an oar that fell into the water.
Other than that…a beautiful, peaceful picnic on a gorgeous spring afternoon…rowing across the 22-acre lake, the second largest water body in Central Park.

cherry walk at the brooklyn botanic garden
Couldn’t resist a little subway ride to Brooklyn to take in a perfect spring day. You must get to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden asap to see the ornamental flowering cherries. It may not be Japan or Washington D.C., but it seems pretty spectacular to me! Click here to get a day-by-day status of each and every tree!
Still in the budding stage, the Cherry Esplanade will be dripping in pink in a couple of days! Hurry! If you can’t make it, check back…I’ll be returning to both Central Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden early next week to see the results of a few warm days here in the city!
central park secret
Are you here in the city or thinking about dropping in over the next couple of days? Well, I just returned from the west side of Central Park along side the Reservoir. If you look real hard there are a few blooms amongst all the buds of a huge group of cherry trees. But just you wait…in a couple of days it will be cherry jubilee! Thank you Japan for the wonderful gift back in 1912!
P.S. Can’t make it? Stay tuned…I’ll share in a few days!
gallery show on central park west
Walking home on this overcast day, I stopped in the gallery 25CPW. I love this little gallery at 62nd Street and Central Park West and was eager to view the exhibit, Places, by photographer Max Berger. Berger practices law and is the founding member of a legal firm here in New York City. He travels extensively with his wife and shoots the sights, from Yellowstone to Bhutan with his Nikon. But his series from Cabo were my favorite. Titled Watercolors, the six captures were mesmorizing…a spontaneous moment at a wedding reception when many jumped into the swimming pool as the night wore on…like impressionistic paintings of swimmers, water and light.
All the proceeds from the show will be donated to causes close to his heart; City Year New York and inMotion. City Year unites young volunteers for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement in underserved schools and communities in NYC. inMotion confronts the challenging needs of families in crisis by providing free legal services to low-income and abused women in the city, who are otherwise unable to secure legal representation.
Viewing an exhibit like this and learning about the photographer gives me such inspiration. According to William Meyers (writes regularly on photography in the Wall Street Journal)…”Berger is free from editorial directives and deadlines. He has the luxury to photograph what he wants, where he wants and when he wants. If there is any criterion, it is the pleasure his work gives him and the people he chooses to share it with.” Isn’t it great to be an amateur photographer!
Bravo! One day I want to have a show and give all proceeds to Alzheimer’s. One day!
travel pause…
Heading home to MY city!
P.S. Buenos Aires to be continued….
(Sharing my morning capture with Bella’s 52 photos project as well…)
