As someone who lives and walks this city daily…my blog is all about delving a little deeper, seeing what it has to offer, and capturing the true essence of New York City. Whether you live in Gotham, or just visiting…feel free to look around my blog. Bet you might find something new to do!
Keep in mind this isn't a blog about what is coming up...but what is experienced on a day to day basis.
P.S. As of the end of April 2013 my more personal postings will now be at The Next Few Years.

before the after…

In a few weeks some furniture will begin to arrive and finally the “studio” will start to come together! Sharing a before…before the after. Love, love, love my new Aeron chair, especially rolling on these hardwood floors, yippeeeeeeee!
If you look to the right of the photo you may notice there’s a roll of toilet tissue. Yep, India in a few days. I’m so excited! However, the timing couldn’t be worse. Flight takes off on Sunday night just as the hurricane is to hit. But what do you do? You gotta take it as it comes! So stay tuned!
P.S. Many of you mention that you can’t leave a note on my blog. Well you really can. If you’re receiving the updates through your email, just click the title of the post and it’ll take you right into the site. If you’re receiving a feed, then just click “Read More” and it’ll take you there too. I love comments and so appreciate the few of you that take the time to do so!!

good morning and welcome home!
Yep, this was my alarm this morning now that I’m back in MY city!

Who needs an alarm clock when you have chirps and sunflower seed hulls flying in all over the bed! (Yes, it’s true…I don’t put the screen in my window) So to get back at em…I googled cardinals and started playing audio clips of female cardinals! LOL…watch out said that bird!!!

magic eye
I’m so in love with the vintage peephole in the front door of the apartment…along with the glass door knobs. It was an omen as they go perfectly with my Salvation Army piece with the adorable drawer knobs that a friend of mine gave me a couple of years ago. (Thank you Madam….)

murder and glamour

Yep, the big boy in the very back is THE building in MY city. The Italian Renaisssance-style building is a pre-war building, meaning it was built before World War 2. I guess that’s why the hardwood floors creak and the toilet sounds like a plane taking off when flushed. But, we’ll get back to that in another post.
There’s 17 stories and a 143 apartments which means there’s tons of people to get to know including all the doormen and porters. I’m calling one guy Sammy who is really Victor and most of the time I get Vidal and Pinot straight but not always, but I definitely know the super is Mike as he lives on my floor…but we’ll get back to that in another post too.
So just a few tidbits of history…
Scenes from the movie, The Death Wish, starring Charles Bronson in 1974 was filmed in one of the apartments…
The Gershwins (George and Ira) had adjoining penthouses and of course was the scene for many famous parties. I can just imagine Ethel Merman waltzing through the front door into the black and white tiled lobby area on her way up to audition for the musical, Girl Crazy…
Then in 1982, the son of the father who once owned the building was murdered in the penthouse by a 16 year old…
Can’t wait to dig up more dirt, oops I mean learn more about the building’s history.
P.S. I am so loving this apartment!!!!

i’m connected!
Yeah! I’m celebrating the fact the Time Warner guy showed up. AND on time. So now I have wi-fi. But in the interim, many thanks to “Roz” who must be clueless, as she’s the only one in a list of 50 to have an unsecured wireless connection to tap into. Now…back to unpacking…

two years?
How can it be? Amazing to think it’s been two years since the Gotham Girl rolled into her city! Wow! How time flies!
So what usually happens this time of year? Yep, time for new digs! And it seems like a good time to move from the den to the lair, don’t cha think? I once heard that when you find out who you are… you’ll find out what you need. So here’s to many years in a new place in the best neighborhood in Manhattan, The Upper West Side!
Even though the primary residence will continue to be in the Arizona desert and I’ll certainly head out to the farm in Virginia every chance I get, it’s nice to dig in just a little deeper in the greatest city on earth!
More to come so check back in on the Gotham Girl!
