silent wisdom

great horned owl in the desert

So enjoy the early mornings here in the desert…the silence…sun just beginning to peek…the silence…a quiet walk in the desert wash with sand crunching under my feet…silence…and there he was…as still as still could be…watching me…silence…and within seconds…gone…silence.  There is a special kind of wisdom that lives only in silence.

The first year I moved in, a pair of owls visited the trees around my house on a regular basis. They made me feel soothed and at home at a time when I truly needed it. Then my neighbor cut down several trees and this must have been enough to make the pair move away or else. I like to think they moved on to somewhere else that they were needed.
