a sign of comfort

Remember the steel t-beam found within the rubble of the World Trade Center a couple of days after 9/11? The symbol of hope, faith, comfort and healing for many?

Recently on a trip to Ground Zero I came across the temporary sight of the 2-ton, 20 foot high beam. But what was so intriguing were the two baseballs in a nook inside the cross. I learned later that a father, whose son had died in the twin towers, had them placed there in honor of his son in hopes of bringing some sort of closure to his loss. You see his son was an avid baseball fan and had always wanted to play for the Yankees. A small memorial…

Just a few days ago the cross was moved from its current location to the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. I’ll be one of many who will be viewing Ground Zero for the first time during the week of 9/11 this year. It will be another step going forward…a testament to the spiritual renewal in the face of tragedy and loss.

funnel of love…

There was a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on at Summerstage in Central Park last night! Wanda Jackson, THE Queen of Rockabilly, THE first woman to perform unadulterated rock and roll absolutely rocked out the house. Now this lady has some pipes! One of the many touching and authentic moments was when she spoke of Amy Winehouse and sang the song You Know I’m No Good.

But in my book, the bigger hit was Imelda May. In her native Ireland, her album Love Tattoo has gone five times platinum. Her newer album Mayhem was just released in the U.S. and she’s now touring and just performed on the Jay Leno show last week. Absolutely adored her retro-chic style and how appreciative she was of her audience! You go girl!

(p.s. Thanks Meta for joining me!)

the chosen one

Looked down this street and it totally reminded me of The Sopranos…

You woke up this morning
got yourself a gun,
Mama always said you’d be
The Chosen One…

shopping with grandma

Feather hair extensions…Gucci purse…Godiva Chocolates…Juicy Couture…

No way was she more than 12 years old. When a child gets everything they want at this age, what will their expectations be as a teenager, an adult?

louis mendes of nyc

I’ve seen Louis Mendes on the streets many times, usually hanging around B&H photo on 34th and 9th Avenue in NYC. A street photographer from Harlem, he’s been shooting now for over 40 years.

Always impeccably dressed and always with his 1940′s speed graphic camera. It was fun to chat with him and turn the tables by taking his photo!

i ♡ Fishs Eddy

After burning my lunch (twice now!) because of my phone’s elaborate alarm system (which I often fail to grasp) it gave me the excuse to visit Fishs Eddy and purchase this adorable little chicken timer. Love love love Fishs Eddy store. Unfortunately I walked out of the place with way more than a chicken timer…

If you don’t know…a cook I am not. Which probably explains why I take photos of a chicken timer on top of a gas burning stove.
