Visiting my parents!

Last night the sunset cast the most beautiful pink throughout the neighborhood where my parents live in Virginia. Back in MY city tomorrow night! Yippee!

The Oak Bar

Ahhh…the memories from The Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel. It’s been so many years, I think I just need to go and check out the renovations, savor one of those infamous martinis, soak up all that oak and reminisce. After a few days here in Virginia visiting my parents and missing the blizzard in MY city…I think I will put this on my “to do!”

Central Park illusion

You know how you hear reports that people see Jesus or Mary in their cornflakes, in the clouds or whatever…well I was walking thru Central Park on a brisk wintry day…out of the corner of my eye I could feel this image…I’m not saying I’m seeing Jesus, but let me tell you this guy has a set of lips that definitely captured my attention! I know…I’m weird.

Calligraphy course in NYC

Thanks Christopher for a fabulous calligraphy class for the past two Saturdays! Presented by the Society of Scribes, held at The School for Visual Arts in the Gramercy area of Manhattan and conducted by calligrapher extraordinaire Christopher Calderhead. Finally, someone who understands a left-handed person wanting to learn calligraphy. Great group of class participants and what a fun learning experience into an introduction to the art of calligraphy!

Winter Jam NYC

The snow guns began a blizzard in Central Park this week to create a blanket of two feet of snow in preparation for Winter Jam NYC, an annual winter sports festival being held this weekend. Darn, I’ll be in my calligraphy class all day on Saturday and will miss the chance to snowshoe, ski and snowboard! How perfect to have a topping of the real thing with the additional inch of snow that snuck into the city last night!

Man with pipe

Today was a day to pop the ear buds in, stick the ipod in the coat pocket and head out. In heaven with John Mayer as I walked through Central Park, Taylor Swift kicked in walking down Fifth Avenue and then in perfect timing with the soundtrack of Crazy Heart, I saw man with pipe. How long had it been since I’ve smelled the sweet aroma of pipe tobacco. No one smokes a pipe anymore. I was intoxicated. Now mind you I had no agenda. Just walk the streets, listen to tunes and take in the sights. So I followed him about 5 blocks until he ducked in a restaurant all while I listened to Jeff Bridges’ Fallin & FLyin. The lyrics couldn’t have been more perfect:

I was goin’ where I shouldn’t go
seein’ who I shouldn’t see
doin’ what I shouldn’t do
and bein’ who I shouldn’t be

a little voice told me it’s all wrong
another voice told me it’s alright
I used to think I was strong
but lately I just lost the fight

funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while
funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while

I got tired of bein’ good
started missing that old feeling free
stop actin’ like I thought I should
and went on back to bein’ me

I never meant to hurt no one
I just had to have my way
if there is such a thing as too much fun
this must be the price you pay

funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while
funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while

you never see it comin’ till it’s gone
it all happens for a reason
even when it’s wrong
especially when it’s wrong

funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while
funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’
for a little while

I was goin’ where I shouldn’t go
seein’ who I shouldn’t see
doin’ what I shouldn’t do
and bein’ who I shouldn’t be

I’m the luckiest girl in the world. What a nice day. And…I loved Jeff Bridges in that movie.
